GLENN MCGRATH IS MY IDOL- HIMANSHU SANGWAN
The talented youngster credited his success to Australian fast bowler Glenn McGrath. He said, “I take inspiration from Australian legend Glenn McGrath. He is my idol.” I learned a lot from McGrath during my stint at the M.R.F Pace Foundation.
I was there for a short camp in March (2019). Mcgrath watched my videos and told me what are the areas where should I improve? He is the legend of the game. He told me -“whenever there is trouble go to the basics.”. Sangwan told to TOI.
“I bowled many deliveries under his (McGrath) supervision, and he was making notes about my bowling.
After every session, he motivates me and tells me technical things.” -Sangwan said.
“Stick to the basics and stay patient”- these are the two things I always remember from McGrath. Honestly, his guidance helped me a lot in the Ranji trophy. -Sangwan added.
He also revealed that he had plans for Prithwi Shaw and Ajinkya Rahane.
“We had a team meeting ahead of Mumbai match. Our coach said we are not underdogs. We also have good bowlers and batsmen in our team.
He said that don’t think about who is the batsmen, just bowl to the right areas. We bowled to the right areas and got them out. It was magnificent to beat a top team that too in their own den.” – Sangwan added.
“I knew that Prithwi is an attacking batsman and He will look to attack. So, I didn’t get panic and bowled on some specific areas with a change of pace. This worked well against Prithvi.
But when Rahane comes to the crease, the thought of being one of the best test players in the world crossed in my mind. He is India’s no.5 and vice-captain of the Indian test team. I bowled him on outside off stump and let him did the mistake. And which was worked against him”- 24 years old fast bowler said.
My coach Harwinder sir and captain Karn Sharma have helped me a lot. They make plans, and those plans worked in our favor. In my opinion, our bowling attack is capable of doing wonders.
It showed in the games against Mumbai and UP. I played well last year in the U-23 CK Naidu trophy, where I claimed 37 wickets in 7 matches. Due to that, I got a chance in Ranji Trophy this year.
When I made my debut, I didn’t know I will get 4 wickets against a team like Uttar Pradesh. I took 2 wickets against Saurashtra and six wickets against Mumbai.-Sangwan to TOI.
