 Rohit Sharma is selected for Khel Ratna award but Boxer Amit is unhappy with the decision:

Cricketer Rohit Sharma is selected along with four other sportspeople including women wrestler Vinesh Phogat, Hockey captain Rani Rampal, Paralympian T Mariyappan, paddler Manika Batra for the Khel Ratna Award.

But Boxer Amit Panghal is unhappy with this decision and according to him, it’s time to make changes in the process of choosing names for national awards.

Amit’s name was sent for the Khel Ratna award but he was ignored by the committee. He had won Silver in the 2019 Boxing championship.

Recently, In an interview with Bhaskar, Boxer Amit Panghal Shared his thoughts regarding nomination for the awards. Amit believes that the process of choosing sportspeople is not right and it should be changed immediately.

Cricketers are given the Arjuna or Khel Ratna Award always:

 Boxer Amit Panghal believed that Cricketers receive Khel Ratna or Arjuna Award every year even when only 10-11 countries play cricket. They forget the Individuals who have fought against 80-100 country players. This thing makes Boxer Amit very unhappy.

This system demotivates those Olympians who won medals for the country but don’t receive any award.

Amit’s name has ignored consecutively three times for the Khel Ratna award.

“Many players who can’t even reach Olympics honored with Award”, Boxer Amit:

Amit openly said that some sportspeople received awards who don’t deserve it and can’t reach Olympics. 

According to Amit, ” If any sportsman receives Award then it will definitely encourage him to do more better it future”.

Khel Ratna is the biggest national award. Along with the award an amount of 7.5 lac rupees also given to the sportsperson.

A total of 4 cricketers received Khel Ratna, Sachin Tendulkar (1998), MS Dhoni (2007), Virat Kohli (2018), Rohit Sharma (2020).
