The opening batsman of Team India Rohit Sharma has shared the moment when he got the captaincy of Mumbai Indians. He remembered the 2013 season of IPL during the live chat with Ravichandran Ashwin.
Rohit Sharma said, ‘ Ricky Ponting was present in the auction in 2013. In 2012, Sachin Tendulkar had said that he will not do captaincy in the next season and Harbhajan Singh got the captaincy in place of him.’
Right-hand batsman Rohit Sharma said, ‘ I didn’t understand why Bhajji Paa was made the captain. I believed that I will be the captain of the team. But Mumbai Indians bought Ricky Ponting in the auction.’
‘ In 2013, Ricky Ponting is the first player who came to India. He wanted to understand everyone. He said, he wants a team bonding session before playing. It made a positive impact on everyone and inspired a lot of young players .’ He added.
During the live chat with Ashwin, Rohit Sharma reveals why Ricky Ponting left the captaincy in the midseason of IPL 2013. Rohit Sharma said, ‘ He was not scoring runs, therefore he left the captaincy. In the 2013 season, He was a coach more than a player. He was always ready to help me.’

Rohit Sharma further said, ‘ I think Pointing is that guy who has come from another planet. He knows How to get the best out of someone. He won Australia’s World Cup twice. He knows how championships are won.’
Ricky Ponting also coached Mumbai Indians for three seasons, so Rohit has spent a lot of time with this former Australian coach.
